Almeus was found not guilty of raping a woman, the wife of a police offer, who claimed that the act had taken place on March 19, 2004 at the St. Mary’s College ground where Father Almeus lives and teaches.

Almeus stood still when the foreman delivered the verdict. The priest stared at the judge who told him he was free to go. He glanced at the alleged victim and then calmly exited the courtroom. He waited in the foyer of the court for his lawyers. The alleged victim cried as she was consoled by her husband, who was in court everyday.
Roman Catholic priest Enel Almeus looked smugly at the woman who accused him of rape as he exited the prisoners' dock of the Port of Spain Sixth Criminal Court after being told he was a free man.
