Kes the Band
|
Their unique sense of style caught the attention of Joey NgWai, who immediately recruited them to form the core unit of a band that was being revamped called ‘Imij and Co.' This presented a new challenge for the boys, as they had never before pursued this genre of music: Soca. They welcomed the challenge however, and from the period 2001 through 2005, the four toured extensively with 'Imij' and Co. During those years the boys created memorable hits such as 'One Day', 'Push', and 'Runaway'.
In early 2005, Hans, Jon, Kees and Riad parted ways with 'Imij and Co.' and formed, KES THE BAND. Their first album titled "Three Baldheads and a Dread", launched in 2006, featured tracks like, 'Stay with me' - which set a new record on the Toronto website charts(www.toronto-lime.com), dominating the number one position for 9 weeks; 'Heads High,' a Carnival favourite, and a cover version of the Dave Matthews hit "Crash Into Me". Also featured on the album was new member of the group, Nadia Batson, whose monster smash 'One Island' was one of the most popular songs for the 2006 Carnival season.
By 2007 Kes the Band launched their second album LION which featured hits such as ‘My Land,’ ‘Our Prayer’, ‘Liming’ and ‘Bigger Brighter Days’. In 2008 releases such as ‘Right Dey’ and ‘Wave it Away’ proved that the band is definitely a force to be reckoned with.
By February 2009 Kes the Band released their third album “On in 5” which features a mix of old and new releases as well as live performances. Their 2009 offerings include, "This Feeling", "Thunder" and "We Own". One track off the album ‘Stalker’ was recently up for consideration for the 9th Annual Independent Music Awards and has been heard consistently on Y100’s Unsigned Bands Top 10 charts.
