Bunji Garlin

Bunji Garlin is without a doubt the Soca industry's most ingenious lyricist and quick-witted vocalist, with the ability to chant lyrics at almost inhuman speed. Born Ian Alvarez, Bunji Garlin entered the Soca arena in 1999 with his ever-infectious Ragga Soca single "Send Dem Riddim Crazy" and has been releasing hit after hit thereafter.

Bunji has established himself as a versatile performer with the ability to expertly execute songs that crosses over four genres of music Soca, Reggae, R&B, Hip-Hop and Dancehall. He has performed with American R&B female group Allure and has shared the stage with a number of Reggae artistes including Sean Paul, Beenie Man, Shaggy and Elephant Man. He has even collaborated with the legendary Freddie McGregor to produce a track entitled "One Family".

During his decade long career to 2009, Garlin has released 8 albums:

Chronicles
Revelation
The Black Spaniard
Graceful Vengeance
Flamestorm
The Next Direction
Global
Fiery

Bunji has also attained 7 crowns, 2 Ragga Soca Titles - 2000, 2001; the 2000 Young King Title and 4 Soca Monarch Titles- 2002, 2004, 2005, 2008. On December 23 2006, he wed his sweetheart, fellow Soca artiste, Fay Ann Lyons.

He has lived up to the definition of his assumed name, Bunji Garlin, which he explains was derived from the "the bungee-rope which is flexible but unbreakable and often used in death-defying stunts and Garlin which is a gun with powerful shots, I'm the girls them garlin and when it comes to clash, no matter what they send at me, I will always bounce back". Indeed his ever-evolving music, daring performances and unequalled lyrical content have rendered him an unstoppable force. 2009 proves to be no different with his run-away hits "Clear De Road", "Plenty Gyal" and "Banana".
