The statement had one simple meaning; when the wicked are busy, so do we need to busy ourselves to counteract their evil doings with that which is positive.
Rosemarie Hezekiah of Riddums Productions who addressed the members of the audience as 'angels', delivered a powerful prelude to the premier of the film "Miles From Home", which was launched by the Guardian Angel Project and sponsored in part by the DCDB foundation on Wednesday 4th November, 2009. She highlighted that "we are all angels in society in our own little way". Simon Baptiste of Question Mark Entertainment not only honoured, but gave a heart rendered introduction to the man himself, spokes model, artist and owner of the DCDB (Don't Cross De Border) Movement (2004), Maximus Dan featuring MX Prime.
Miles from Home is an independent feature that deals with the troubling yet socially relevant issue of children living on the streets. More than just a fundraiser, the premiere of the movie "Miles from Home" served as a launch for a movement to create awareness for social programmes in Trinidad and Tobago (through partners like UNICEF), and to mobilize volunteers to become mentors to our youth. It's also an effort to create internships, and introduce monthly workshops and seminars to those interested in the entertainment industry or wishing to learn more about their selected field.
Simon Baptiste is the link between Ty Hodges and Maximus Dan, who he refers to as the 'catalyst', bringing the right messages to the forefront. He cited that Maximus is a one man team who has contributed out of his own earnings, approximately a quarter of a million dollars to charity and has also ardently visited and performed at schools, homes, juvenile detention centres and even prisons, as well as performed pro bono on a regular basis, sharing his story and encouraging upcoming generation to walk the righteous path which he himself has chosen. Maximus's contribution to charity and the well-being of our society is immeasurable. A sure sign that he was the best spokes person for the premiere of "Miles From Home".
Maximus gave the privileged members of the audience insight to his life growing up in Carenage where he was exposed to drug addicts, drug lords, prostitutes, those who are often regarded as the rejects of society, as well as the elderly and church goers. They all had one common goal, and that was to see the young man they knew as Edghill Thomas make his mark on this world. "You are special" they informed him, "there is more to you than meets the eye and you need to go out there and represent our community in a positive way so that it can reflect not only on the community and its members, but show everyone out there that something great and positive can come out of this village". The people of Carenage always saw Maximus as an individual with a powerful and courageous spirit who yearned to be around anyone he could learn from and took a positive message from each of those people whether they were seen as good or bad individuals, and applied it to his life. He learned from their mistakes and used what he learned as the motivation and force that propelled not only his musical career but served as a moral foundation upon which he built his values.
Ty Hodges not only wrote and directed this masterfully shot film starring Maegan Good and Todd Bridges and produced by Meagan Good and Marlon Ollivierre but starred in it himself. Todd Bridgescited how close to his heart the movie is, as it relates very strongly to his family history. Maegan Good stated, "Ty is one of the best directors I have ever worked with". On watching the film, one will notice that character she plays is opposite to most of her previous roles where she had been type casted. Bearing mature content, the film presents a true picture of reality from two different perceptions and a difference in response to the issues from both sides of the track. It supports Maximus's firm belief that one can turn a negative situation into a positive solution. Extraordinarily thought provoking as it is, this movie is sure to make an imprint on your mind for the rest of your life and encourage you to allow your inner angel to manifest. It can be summed up in one small phrase: Small budget, colossal message, phenomenal, earthshaking impact!
