Rachel is one of the dying breed of artist who not only sings, but writes, arranges and play her own music. Her music sounds as great as she looks. Trinibeat sat down to talk to Rachel about her music.

How did you got into the entertainment industry?
I never saw it as entertainment. I saw it as a gift I have and I choose to share it with others. I always loved singing, and would do it anytime. Get a job you like and you would not work a day in your life.

Who was your inspiration?
My father Julien Rullow. He has always been teaching me not to fear. So now I can sing or speak to anyone or any crowd of people and be confident. I always loved Yolanda Adams. She brings real life issues in her music. Some Gospel music doesn't easily identify with day to day issues. They speak mainly of general issues, nothing personal, which is all good. But Yolanda's music speaks to your heart, and she brings in her real life experiences. Songs like Fragile Heart, Open My Heart, and Worship Him, speaks to you wherever you are. Yolanda also has the ability to captivate and feel her audience. She just seems like a real person, with real issues but still worshiping God with everything that she has as her song "worship Him" says and even more recently, "I've got the Victory".

So you making music to speak to the Heart & Soul?
Yes I am. I want to be one of the artiste that can sing about the real things that Christians face as well, because we do have challenges you know… but the message I want to portray is one of God’s grace, His love, His forgiveness the way that He doesn’t give up on us even when we fail Him or when life knocks you down.

Recently Michael Jackson passed away and he wanted to heal the world through music. When writing your songs, is it influenced by current events happening in Trinidad and Tobago? E.g. the youths today seem lost.
My issues are based on my relationship with God and my desire to see people forge a relationship with the heavenly father. That is the solution to our social problems in Trinidad and Tobago.

Your debut album Manger Messiah, long overdue? Or just perfect timing?
Yes I think so. But I didn't think about it much because I just enjoyed what I was doing so it didn't really matter. It was a sacrifice; guess there'd never be perfect timing or enough time to do everything. Another thing my father thought me was, if you want to do something you find a way to do it and if you don't want to do it you find an excuse. So I found the time after work, sometimes after band practice in church but my passion and my desire to do it kept me going and I enjoyed doing it.

How was you first album received?
I think it was well received considering it was only released two weeks before Christmas. Sales were good for a Christmas C/D from a 'no-name Christian artiste.

So what's in the future for Rachel Rullow? Any sneak peaks?
I am focusing a little more on writing but plan to do a release maybe in November. This release maybe a compilation of songs I have written over the years but have not recorded. Not necessarily Christmas music.

Any Collaboration?
Not in the works right now. I am seeking to create my identity first with the help of God.
