Silver Stars take Panorama 2009 Large Band Finals
|
Silver Stars originally formed in the 1950's remain the only steelband to win Band of the Year. This they did in 1963 with a presentation of "Gulliver Travels". But earlier this morning the steelband from Newtown Tragarete Road Port of Spain, were announced Large Band winners for their rendition of the appropiately titled "First In De Line" arranged by Edwin Pouchet. The band previously place 4th in the semi finals behind first place semi-final winners Phase II Pan Groove and narrowly took the finals with 469 points to Phase II Pan Groove 468 points.
However the night was not without disapointment for some steelbands, as 6th place Exodus with 456 points lost 20 points for having 59 extra players which perhaps cost them the title.
